In this lesson students will explore abstract art through the work of Etel Adnan, focusing on how simplified shapes and the strategic use of colour can be used to express feelings or represent imagined landscapes. Using only three lines, students will create small abstract compositions and experiment with applying warm and cool colours to explore contrast, harmony and mood. Students will be encouraged to purposefully place colours in relation to each other and reflect on the effect of their colour and line choices.
