In this lesson students will develop skills in tissue paper collage, layering and sealing, and acrylic marker mark-making to build texture, line and colour, while responding to Kirli Saunders and Mark Chester Harding’s “Beyond the Shore” and its themes of curiosity, perspective and the wonder and mystery of the unknown.

Learning outcomes:

I can tear and layer tissue paper to build textured collage areas
I can use a glue stick to adhere and seal my collage
I can use acrylic markers to create line, pattern and colour in my underwater scene
I can use line to create a sense of movement, such as a drifting tide or swaying seaweed
I can draw a simple figure using a step-by-step layering technique
I can cut out and collage an element into my artwork
I can create a word tile using onomatopoeia and expressive lettering
I can make colour choices that convey the mood of the shore and the underwater world
