In this lesson students will develop collage skills including tracing, layering and cutting, while exploring colour, pattern, repetition, and positive and negative space, drawing on Yayoi Kusama’s use of dots and scale to inform their own artistic choices.

Learning outcomes:

I can fold and construct my own zine/artist book using a fan-fold technique.
I can layer and cut coloured paper to build a mushroom collage with a sense of depth.
I can trace a template to create multiple colourways and select the most effective composition.
I can use warm and cool colours purposefully to communicate mood and emotion in my artwork.
I can create pattern and repetition through the deliberate placement of dots and lines.
I can balance positive and negative space to strengthen the composition of my artwork.
I can justify the title I give my artwork by explaining the mood and choices behind it.
