In this lesson students will produce a creative response to the text by Barney Saltzberg called ‘Beautiful Oops!’ They will respond to the text through performing each of the actions (mistakes) that are shared throughout the story. They will use assorted materials such as paper, pastel and paint to create their own ‘Oops Art,’ which will be full of meaningful and beautiful mistakes. This activity will provide students with an opportunity to explore the art elements of colour and shape. Within the area of Literacy, it will provide students with an opportunity to build their language as they explore, learn, act out and use a variety of verbs to create their ‘Oops Art.’

Learning outcomes:

I can engage with the story 'Beautiful Oops!' and use it as inspiration to create my own artwork by experimenting with different materials and actions.
I can identify and use verbs related to artistic processes, such as drip, tear and smudge, to enhance my understanding of action words in both art and language.
I can explore the use of warm and cool colours in my creations, understanding how colours can convey different emotions and stories.
I can manipulate various materials to transform accidental marks into intentional artistic elements, discovering the potential in every mistake.
I can reflect on my creative process and articulate what I learned about making mistakes and how it led to unexpected and unique art pieces.
