In this lesson students will explore the areas of shape, colour and line through the medium of drawing and painting. Taking inspiration from Yoko Georgiou’s bold and playful textile designs, students will make their own one and two layered paintings using a variety of lines and shapes. Students will view and respond to the stylistic traits of Yoko Georgiou, including her use of bold curved and wriggly lines and flat tones.

Students will use paint brushes and acrylic paint to explore and experiment with line and shape and colour. Students will explore contrasting colours to create a sense of vibrancy and energy.

Students will create their playful line paintings by experimenting with symmetry painting techniques and flat colours. Students will use rollers to paint the first layer of their paintings and will create a second layer using line and shape.
Students will select one of their paintings to manipulate and sculpt into a large paper link which will be used to construct a class collaborative piece of art and will select a second painting to display/showcase their own playful line painting and a third one to create with at home.
