In this lesson students will explore and discuss how Tremlett uses linocut printing to highlight themes of colonialism, national identity, and historical memory. Students will be encouraged to reflect on how his imagery or figures are recontextualised to challenge conventional narratives and provoke reflection. First students will learn how to draw a self-portrait using grey lead and then they will learn how to transfer this image onto a sheet of foam. They will then learn and practise the process and techniques of foam printing to create a relief print. Through this process students will explore the art elements of shape, line, texture and art principles of contrast and scale.
