In this lesson students will explore shape, texture, emphasis and contrast while learning about the artist Henri Matisse. Students will explore the shapes which Matisse uses in his own work while developing an understanding of texture through gel plate printing and building layers. Students will work over these gel plate prints through painting in negative space around Matisse style shapes to create contrast and emphasis within their artwork.
