In this lesson students will hand-build a clay snail, then use beads, sequins, pipe cleaners and other mixed materials to build up a tiny, embellished world inside its shell. This lesson combines sculptural clay work with a playful mix of textures and materials, inspired by the colourful, playful works of Pip & Pop.

Learning outcomes:

I can talk about how an artist’s ideas and materials can inspire my own art
I can use my imagination to invent a fantastical miniature world
I can hand-build a clay form using my fingers and simple tools
I can add texture to my clay using tools
I can combine clay with beads, sequins and other materials to build my world
I can paint my artwork using a colour palette I choose
I can talk about the story or mood of my finished artwork
